- Personal Identity Information: Name, Email Address, and Phone Number (for account creation, OTP verification, and alerts).
- Travel Data: Dates of arrival into India and departure from India, flight numbers, and ports of exit/entry. This is the core data required to calculate your stay.
- Location Data: Precise GPS location data to determine your current country and city for the "Auto-Track" feature (see Section 5).
- Uploaded Documents: Digital copies of Boarding Passes, Flight Tickets, or Passport stamps that you voluntarily upload to "Audit-Proof" your records.
- Device Information: Device ID, OS version, and login timestamps to ensure security and enforce our "One Account" policy.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data strictly for the functionality of the App. We do not sell your data to advertisers, travel agencies, or third parties.
- Calculation Logic: To compute the total number of days spent in India according to the Income Tax Act (Section 6) and FEMA rules.
- Compliance Alerts: To send you critical notifications via Email/SMS when you are approaching the 182-day or 120-day thresholds.
- Automatic Trip Logging: Using location data to automatically detect when you land in or depart from India, ensuring you never miss recording a date.
- Report Generation: To create PDF exports of your travel history for you to share with your Chartered Accountant.
- Customer Support: To resolve technical issues or login disputes.
4. App Permissions
Our Mobile App may request specific permissions to function correctly. You can deny these permissions, but related features will not work.
- Location (Background & Foreground): Required for the "Auto-Track Flights" feature to detect airport locations.
- Camera & Gallery: To allow you to scan or upload photos of your Boarding Passes/Tickets for storage.
- Storage (Read/Write): To save the generated PDF reports to your device.
- Notifications: To send timely residency status alerts and travel reminders.
5. Location Data & Background Tracking
This section explicitly details our use of location services:
- Core Purpose: The "Auto-Track Flights" feature requires access to your location to automatically record your arrival and departure dates in India. This ensures your tax residency calculations remain accurate even if you forget to open the app.
- Background Access: NRI Track collects location data to enable automatic flight detection even when the app is closed or not in use.
- Data Usage: This location data is used strictly to identify the city/airport you are in (e.g., "Mumbai International Airport") to log a travel entry. It is not used for real-time tracking, advertising, or shared with third parties.
- User Control: This feature is Optional and disabled by default. You must explicitly enable "Auto-Track Flights" in the Profile Settings to activate background location collection. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
6. Data Storage & Security
We implement robust industry-standard security measures:
- Encryption: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using SSL/TLS protocols. Sensitive documents are stored in secure cloud environments (e.g., AWS S3) with restricted access.
- Access Control: Only authorized personnel have access to the backend systems for maintenance purposes. We do not view your uploaded documents unless specifically requested by you for support.
- Payment Security: We do not store your credit/debit card numbers. All transactions are processed by PCI-DSS compliant payment gateways (Razorpay/Stripe/App Store).
7. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not share your personal information except in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: Trusted third-party vendors who assist us in operating our app (e.g., cloud hosting, email delivery services, OTP providers). They are bound by confidentiality agreements.
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or government authority (e.g., Indian Income Tax Department) to disclose data for legal processes.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your travel logs and documents for as long as your account is active to provide you with historical tax reports.
- Upon Cancellation: If you cancel your subscription, we retain your data for a grace period of 90 days to allow easy reactivation.
- Right to Delete: You can request the permanent deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting support. Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered.
9. Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses essential cookies to maintain your login session and remember your preferences (like Financial Year selection). We may use anonymous analytics tools (like Google Analytics) to understand app usage patterns and improve performance. These tools do not track your individual travel history.
